Washing your face may seem like the simplest step in your daily skincare routine. However, washing your face with just water and soap may not be enough to remove sunscreen, makeup, and pollution that build up throughout the day.
If not done properly, leftover dirt can clog your pores, cause acne, and make your skin feel rough. So that your skincare products can work better after cleansing, let’s follow these simple steps to wash your face the right way!
1. Wash Your Hands First
Before touching your face, make sure your hands are clean. Our hands can carry bacteria from many things we touch every day. Washing your hands with soap and running water is an important first step to prevent bacteria from getting onto your face.
2. Double Cleanse at Night
One cleansing step is often not enough to remove waterproof makeup or sunscreen. That is why double cleansing is important:
✨ First Cleanser: Use a cleansing balm, cleansing milk, or micellar water. Apply it to your face or use it with cotton to remove dirt and excess oil.
✨ Use Good-Quality Cotton: When using your first cleanser, choose cotton that is soft and does not tear easily. Selection Special Thick Layer is ideal for this step. Its thickness is just right to hold the cleanser without easily breaking apart or leaving cotton fibers on your face.
3. Use a Gentle Facial Cleanser
After removing the first cleanser, continue with a facial wash that suits your skin type.
✨ Wet your face with lukewarm water. Avoid water that is too hot because it can remove your skin’s natural moisture.
✨ Make the cleanser foam in your hands first, then gently massage it onto your face in circular motions for 30–60 seconds.
✨ Focus on the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), as these areas tend to produce more oil.
4. Rinse Until Completely Clean
Rinse away the foam with clean running water. Make sure there is no cleanser left around areas such as the hairline, sides of the nose, and under the chin. Leftover cleanser can cause irritation or clogged pores.
5. Pat Your Face Dry, Don’t Rub
Avoid rubbing your face with a rough body towel. Rubbing can create too much friction and may damage your skin barrier.
Instead, gently pat your face dry. You can use clean cotton, such as Selection Facial Cotton, which has good absorption and is hygienic for removing leftover water from your face.
✨ Continue with Toner and Moisturizer
Do not leave your skin dry for too long after washing your face. Apply a hydrating toner right away to help restore moisture and your skin’s natural pH, then lock in the moisture with a moisturizer.
